An assessment involves collecting meaningful information from various sources to understand the individual's functioning within a specified domain, i.e. intellectual, emotional, personality, aptitude, etc. This process may involve the use of interviews, standardised tests, informal observations and other collateral information.
Psychological assessments can be a helpful tool in order to gain greater knowledge of cognitive, emotional and personality functioning. With these measures, it is possible to make recommendations which are likely to improve well-being and address the presenting challenges. Assessments can be undertaken to gain insight into intellectual functioning and related school performance, to assist with career choice decisions, and to increase awareness of emotional functioning and personality traits. These assessments are conducted on both adults and children.
